Privacy Policy for ShareByLight

Dragos Roua (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the ShareByLight applications for iOS, iPadOS, and Mac (the “App”). This policy explains what information is used when you use the App.

The short version

  • File contents you transfer are not uploaded to our servers.
  • We do not run a ShareByLight backend that receives your files.
  • The transfer uses the screen and camera on your devices.
  • Optional iCloud (Apple) is used only to remember a free-tier preference across reinstalls.
  • Purchases go through Apple, not us.

Information involved in using the App

Files you choose to send or save

When you send a file, the App processes it on your device to display an optical stream on the screen. When you receive a file, the App reconstructs it on your device and lets you save it. We do not receive those files.

Camera

Receive mode uses the camera to read codes from another device’s screen. Video is processed on device for that purpose. We do not upload camera video to our servers.

Optional encryption

If you enable a passphrase, encryption and decryption happen on device. We never receive your passphrase.

Free-tier preference (optional iCloud)

To remember free-mode limits after delete/reinstall, the App may store a small preference in your iCloud private data via Apple CloudKit (for example, that free mode is locked to Send or Receive). That data is associated with your Apple ID and handled by Apple. It is not a copy of your transferred files.

Purchases

Pro unlocks use Apple In-App Purchase / StoreKit. Payment and subscription details are handled by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy. We do not receive your full payment card details.

Diagnostics

We do not operate a separate analytics product for ShareByLight. If Apple provides crash or performance data for apps you install, that is governed by Apple’s policies and your device settings.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not use the App to show third-party advertising networks.
  • We do not require a ShareByLight account.

Data retention

Files and camera frames stay on your devices unless you save, share, or delete them yourself. Free-tier CloudKit preferences remain until you clear them (where the App allows) or remove them via your Apple ID / iCloud settings.

Children’s privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. Do not use it to collect information from children.

Changes

We may update this policy. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated policy.
